Friends of Yaquina Lighthouses present the

Third Annual “Yaquina Nights”, Jazz in January

On Saturday, January 26, 2008, we will “light” up your winter doldrums with the 3rd Annual “Yaquina Nights”, an evening of music, great food and beverages, and an opportunity to be a part of the restoration of the historic Yaquina Lighthouses. This year’s event will include a silent auction featuring many works of art, meals at your favorite local restaurants and relaxing get-away packages.

“Yaquina Nights” will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2008 from 7-10 p.m. at the Outdoor Resorts, Pacific Shores Motor Coach Resort Clubhouse, Newport, OR 97365. Map here. (There will be plenty of parking available in the "Future Development" area shown on their map: watch for marked cones and helpful park rangers to assist in parking)

Jazz music favorite “Perpetua” will provide music. Rogue Ales, Brewers by the Bay, Mo’s, JC Market, Champagne Patio, Village Deli and Local Ocean Seafood will present yummy appetizers. Willamette Vineyards is providing the no-host wine bar and Rogue Ales will serve up some of their outstanding brews.

Friends of Yaquina Lighthouses are presenting this event to raise funds toward restoration of the “Shutters & Gutters” at Yaquina Bay Lighthouse. The shutters protect the lighthouse windows from being broken during the frequent high winds that we experience during the winter. They were last replaced in the early 1970”s during the major restoration done by Oregon Parks and Recreation. The shutters need to be replaced due to wear and tear, and structural problems. At the same time, we plan to research and rebuild the shutters to match those that were originally on the building. The “Gutters” part of the project will replace the inappropriate PVC gutters on the rear wing of the structure with authentic wooden ones.

Friends of Yaquina Lighthouses, a nonprofit organization working in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management and the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department are dedicated to the restoration and preservation of Newport’s two historic lighthouses.

Seventh Annual Lighthouse Photo Contest

Friends of Yaquina Lighthouses announce the winners of the Seventh Annual Lighthouse Photo contest. Best of Show goes to Rick Hyman of Los Altos, CA. Ronda Jean Vivlemore of Aloha, OR won 1st Place in the Color category. 1st place in the Monochrome Category went to Katherine Klosterman of Valrico, FL.
